VIRBAC AND ORION’S NEW PARTNERSHIP TO HELP ADVANCE CARE FOR SENIOR ANIMALS

Fort Worth, Texas (June, 2009) — Virbac Animal Health and Orion Corporation are combining their resources in a partnership focused on developing a product to manage cardiovascular disease in senior pets. And, that could make a difference for many aging pets.

According to the American Animal Hospital Association, pets are living longer than ever before, thanks to advances in veterinary medicine.1 In the 1930s, dogs generally lived seven years. Today, with proper care, it’s not uncommon for dogs to live 14 to 15 years, or longer.2 According to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association's National Pet Owner Survey, 75 percent of the 69 million U.S. households owning a pet have a senior pet.3

“With Orion’s experience in pharmaceuticals for more than 90 years, and Virbac’s dedication to animal health for the past 40 years, we expect this partnership to provide the marketplace with more options for the management of cardiovascular disease in senior pets,” said Monique Schwartz, Vice President of Marketing at Virbac.

As one of the world’s largest laboratories dedicated exclusively to animal health, Virbac develops, manufactures and distributes a wide range of products and services intended for the prevention and treatment of common pathologies in both companion and food producing animals. Its expertise in senior care includes solutions for endocrinology, urology, behavior and dental care: SOLOXINE® (levothyroxine sodium) Thyroid Supplement, PANCREZYME® Pancreas Supplement, TUMIL-K® (potassium gluconate) Potassium Supplement, AMMONIL® Urinary Supplement, UROEZE® (ammonium chloride) Urinary Supplement, NOVIFIT® (NoviSAMe®) Tablets, ANXITANE® (L-Theanine) Chewable Tablets, and the C.E.T.® line of dental care products.

Orion is one of the leading companies in veterinary medicine in the Nordic countries. Orion is a research and development based manufacturer and marketer of human and veterinary pharmaceuticals, active pharmaceutical ingredients, and diagnostic tests. Their veterinary industry portfolio includes proprietary products for sedation, pain relief, and well-being for both companion and production animals.

“This collaboration to help advance senior pet care is exciting,” Schwartz said. “There’s no question, with recent breakthroughs in veterinary medicine, pets are living longer. Pet owners and veterinarians are looking for new ways to sustain their pet’s health and vitality throughout their senior years. The Orion and Virbac partnership allows us to combine our experience and efforts in senior pet care research, new pharmaceutical solutions, and clinical support.”
