VIRBAC INTRODUCES VIRBANTEL™ TO ENDOPARASITIC PRODUCT LINE
Virbantel affordably treats and controls canine roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms.
FORT WORTH, Texas (September 24, 2007) – Virbac Animal Health (Virbac) today announced a new product in the company’s line of dewormers for veterinarians. Virbantel (pyrantel pamoate and praziquantel) Flavored Chewables have been developed to treat and control the three most common internal parasites in dogs: roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms*.
“As veterinarians continue to reinforce the importance of treating and controlling these potentially zoonotic intestinal parasites, a cost-effective broad spectrum preventative designed to support pet owner compliance was needed,” said Denise Skurdalsvold, Virbac Endoparasitic Senior Marketing Manager. “Virbantel provides veterinarians with an economical pork flavored chewable anthelmintic designed to treat and control the seven most commonly seen types of intestinal parasites.” These include: two types of Roundworms (Toxocara canis and Toxascaris leonina); three types of Hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum, Ancylostoma braziliense and Uncinaria stenocephala); and two types of Tapeworms (Dipylidium caninum and Taenia pisiformis).
At a 2006 roundtable discussion on tapeworms, parasitologists and veterinarians endorsed the Companion Animal Parasite Council (CAPC) guidelines, which recommend year-round preventative treatment for internal and external parasites. “These guidelines,” Ms. Skurdalsvold said, “are aimed at improving pet owner compliance, preventing parasitic disease in pets and the zoonotic transmission of parasites from pets to people.”
Pork liver flavored chewables provide safe and convenient dosing and the 100-count packaging makes Virbantel an affordable choice for year-round protection protocols. This new dewormer for puppies and dogs 12 weeks of age or older is available in two tablet sizes for small dogs of 6.0 to 25 pounds and for medium and large dogs of 25.1 to 200 pounds. Dosage is determined by the dog’s body weight.
