NEW OTIC TREATMENT IS DESIGNED TO INCREASE PET OWNER COMPLIANCE AND HELP IMPROVE OUTCOMES
January 25, 2012
FORT WORTH, Texas — Otitis externa continues to be one of the top reasons
why dog owners visit their veterinarian1. Current otic treatments can be a
challenge for veterinary clients to administer. Attempting to count dosage drops,
wrestling with a pet that has painful ears, and treatment regimens lasting 7 to 14
days can leave pet owners feeling frustrated. It can also lead to a lack of
compliance, misapplication of medication, and under-dosing.
New EASOTIC® (hydrocortisone aceponate, miconazole nitrate, gentamicin sulfate)
Otic Suspension For Dogs is designed to improve client compliance and patient
outcomes. The award-winning delivery system makes treatment fast, easy and
precise for clients. The formulation is equally unique. It contains three powerful
actives, including hydrocortisone aceponate (HCA), a potent, new generation
glucocorticoid with high topical potency comparable to betamethasone valerate2
and mometasone furoate3. HCA is highly lipophilic, to rapidly penetrate the
epithelial layer for fast, effective concentrations in the skin. HCA features a
favorable benefit/risk ratio and is well tolerated with low capacity to induce skin
atrophy2. HCA offers quick uptake and rapid onset of action to help reduce
painful OE inflammation. EASOTIC Suspension is contraindicated in dogs with
known or suspected hypersensitivity to corticosteroids, imidazole antifungals, or
aminoglycoside antibiotics. Do not use in dogs with known tympanic membrane
perforation. The safe use of EASOTIC Suspension in dogs used for breeding
purposes, during pregnancy, or in lactating bitches, has not been evaluated.
In a recent study, 79% pet owners who tried EASOTIC Suspension completed
the entire course of treatment. In addition, those who used it reported 100%
overall satisfaction, 100% satisfaction with the duration of treatment, and 100%
satisfaction with the frequency of the treatment4.
“EASOTIC Suspension allows veterinarians to provide their clients with an
effective, easy-to-comply answer to a difficult, and often reoccurring, problem,”
said Heidi Lobprise, DVM, senior technical manager, Virbac Animal Health.
“Otitis externa is a very painful condition, and pet owners want to help their pet
feel better fast, without having to wrestle them over it. Just five days on
EASOTIC Suspension does what it takes seven days to do with other brands.”
The EASOTIC Suspension delivery system aims to simplify the administration
of otitis externa treatments.
