UNIQUE NEW TREATMENT FOR DOGS WITH EAR INFECTIONS IS DESIGNED TO BRING RELIEF TO PETS AND THEIR OWNERS
January 25, 2012
FORT WORTH, Texas — One out of every six dogs knows the pain of ear
inflammation1, medically known as otitis externa, and it continues to be one of
the top reasons why dog owners visit their veterinarian2. Treating a dog with
otitis externa can be a challenge for pet owners. Attempting to count dosage
drops, wrestling with a pet with painful ears, and treatment schedules that last
7 to 14 days can leave a pet owner feeling frustrated. It can also lead to a
break down in the treatment schedule, misapplication and under-dosing. A
new treatment from Virbac Animal Health is helping to put an end to all
those problems.
New EASOTIC® (hydrocortisone aceponate, miconazole nitrate, gentamicin
sulfate) Otic Suspension For Dogs is designed to make application quick, easy
and precise to help pets feel better faster. The innovative new delivery system
and special formula takes the trouble out of treating ear infections.
- Flexible nozzle fits easily into and is gentle on sensitive ears
- One press of the EASOTIC Suspension dispenser pump delivers
an accurate, pre-measured dose – no mess, no guessing
- An airless pouch within the dispenser means it works in any position
- Just one pump per affected ear for five days is all it takes
“EASOTIC Suspension provides pet owners with an easy-to-use, fast-acting
answer to a difficult, and often reoccurring, problem,” said Heidi Lobprise,
DVM, senior technical manager, Virbac Animal Health. “Anyone whose dog
has suffered from acute ear infections knows it is a very painful condition, and
you want to help your pet feel better fast, without having to wrestle with them
to get an adequate number of drops in their ears. Just five days on
EASOTIC Suspension does what it takes seven days to do with other treatments.”
In a recent study, 79% pet owners who tried EASOTIC Suspension completed
the entire course of treatment, compared to just 21.2% with another otitis externa
treatment, Surolan®. In addition, those who used EASOTIC Suspension reported
100% overall satisfaction, 100% satisfaction with the duration of treatment, and
100% satisfaction with the frequency of the treatment3.
Some dog breeds are predisposed to otitis externa, which may be related to
differences in ear structure or genetics. Predisposed breeds such as hounds,
spaniels, poodles, schnauzers, retrievers and other dogs with floppy ears or
hairy inner ear flaps, are often more prone to otitis externa, but it can affect
any dog.
EASOTIC Suspension is contraindicated in dogs with known or suspected
hypersensitivity to corticosteroids, imidazole antifungals, or aminoglycoside
antibiotics. Do not use in dogs with known tympanic membrane perforation.
The safe use of EASOTIC Suspension in dogs used for breeding purposes,
during pregnancy, or in lactating bitches, has not been evaluated.
