FAQ

REBOUND® Liquid Diet

For what types of cases is REBOUND® Liquid Diet indicated?

Patients in recovery can experience significant metabolic changes that challenge their body's ability to maintain defenses and sustain lean body mass. Nutrition is a vital component in helping these patients rebound to better health. REBOUND Liquid Diet is a complete, palatable and versatile nutritional choice in cases like:

  • Post trauma
  • Post surgery, including recovery from dental procedures
  • Chronic illness: diabetes, renal/liver impairment, co-morbidity
  • Geriatric
  • Immune suppressed
  • Inappetance
  • Malnutrition
  • Transitional nutrition from fluids to solid food
  • Supplemental nutrition to fortify a patient's diet

Why does REBOUND Liquid Diet contain Prebiotics?

Compromised patients need to make the most of every nutrient they intake. Prebiotics promote healthy intestinal microflora to aid in nutritional absorption. They help to increase the number of "friendly" microbial bacteria of the gut and inhibit growth of potentially pathogenic bacteria such as E coli and Salmonella species.

Some of the benefits of prebiotics in pet nutrition include:

  • Enhanced nutrient absorption
  • Improved digestive function
  • Stabilized blood sugar levels
  • Positive modulation of immunity and metabolism
  • Aid in prevention of constipation and diarrhea

How long can a pet stay on REBOUND Liquid Diet?

REBOUND Liquid Diet is complete, balanced and fortified nutrition and meets AAFCO standards for maintenance of adult dogs and cats. There is no limit to the amount of time a patient can be kept on the diet.

How can REBOUND Liquid Diet be fed?

It can be fed free-choice, by feeding tube (with no size restrictions) or syringe.

Does it come ready-to-serve?

Yes, simply shake the convenient 8-ounce package and serve.

Do dogs and cats like the taste?

Yes, the chicken flavor is highly palatable

How many formulations are there?

One formulation for both dogs and cats.

How should it be stored?

Once opened REBOUND Liquid Diet retains product integrity for 14 days with refrigeration.

Store unopened product at controlled room temperature (59º – 86º F)

REBOUND® Oral Electrolyte Solution

Is Rebound OES indicated for Parvovirus?

Once the dog can tolerate water, it can tolerate Rebound OES. It is a better choice than water because the dog may still be losing vital electrolytes through diarrhea. Rebound OES is low in calories and fat levels and is a better bridge to food than plain water.

How long can a pet stay on Rebound OES without food?

2 – 3 days. After 2-3 days, a dog should be on food or receiving IV nutrition. Cats should not go 48-hours without eating, unless conditions dictate no food.

Can Rebound OES be fed through a feeding tube or syringe?

Yes.

Can Rebound OES be frozen?

Yes, if placed in a different container.

How much fat is in Rebound OES?

Negligible amounts (<0.1%). Rebound OES contains no animal fat.

Where do the calories come from in the OES?

Fructose

How long is Rebound OES good after it’s opened?

It is good for 14 days under refrigeration.

Is the flavoring in Rebound OES animal protein?

No. It is a vegetable protein that tastes like chicken.

What methods, other than oral electrolyte solution, are used to replace fluids?

There are three procedures used in clinics and veterinary offices:

  • Intravenous (IV) fluids

This is the quickest and also the most expensive. Close monitoring is necessary and the pet must be hospitalized.

  • Subcutaneous (SQ) fluids

A large amount of fluid is given under the skin of the animal, usually in the shoulder or flank areas. Not only do some pets not tolerate this procedure, there is a limit to the amount of fluids that can be given and the procedure is only good for the day it is administered.

  • Force feed fluids

This time-consuming, messy procedure may not be sufficient and the pet may resist the force feeding.
